Podiatric Surgeon Winston V. Trinh, DPM, MS, has joined the Hood Memorial Hospital (HMH) team. He specializes in foot and ankle care, including complex wound care, joint injections, orthotics and surgical treatments. Trinh will see patients at Amite Rural Health Clinic and HMH’s Wound Care and Infusion Center – call (985)748-7141 to schedule an appointment.  Most commercial insurances, Medicare and Medicaid are accepted.

Trinh brings extensive clinical and surgical expertise to the Amite community, treating a wide range of foot and ankle conditions like wounds, joint pain, plantar fasciitis, ingrown toenails, tendonitis, fractures, bunions, hammertoes and limb salvage. He is highly-trained in fore and rear foot surgical interventions and will collaborate closely with patients’ healthcare teams to maximize outcomes.

Trinh completed his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine degree at Des Moines University and went on to complete his podiatric medicine and surgery residency at United Health Services inJohnson City, New York, where he served as Chief Podiatric Resident. In addition to his medical training, Trinh earned master’s of Science in Organic Chemistry from Oklahoma State University and a bachelor’s of Science in Chemistry from The University of Texas at Austin. His research has been published in scientific journals and presented at conferences.

“Footor ankle pain or a wound might bring someone into my office, but there are often other factors that contribute to the issue, so I treat the whole patient– not just the condition. I look beyond the issue to really understand that patient as whole, from their circulation, nutrition, pre-existing conditions, environment, support system and daily challenges,” states Trinh. “I develop treatment plans that truly fit their lives. There is nothing more rewarding than helping a person heal and improve one’s independence and quality of life.”

Trinh also spends his time volunteering in hospitals, hospice facilities and communities, where he helps support underserved populations facing serious illnesses. He notes that these experiences have profoundly shaped the way he practices medicine because he interacts with people from different backgrounds – each with their own beliefs, ways of communicating and life circumstances.

“My volunteer efforts reinforced something I believe is essential in healthcare. Before you can treat a patient, you have to listen to them. You have to understand how to be present with that person, hear what they are telling you and make a genuine connection,” shares Trinh. “Being a good doctor isn’t only about treating a condition. It’s about understanding the person in front of you.”

Trinh will care for patients alongside Amite Rural Health Clinic Drs. Francis Cefalu and Diane Kirby; Nurse Practitioners Shea Edwards, Tara Estay, Sunne Glasgow and Lindsey Misita; and Nurse Practitioner/Wound Care Specialist Tracey McKenna. He will see patients at 409 Northwest Central Avenue and HMH Wound Care and Infusion Center at 309 W. Walnut Street, Suite C, in Amite. Appointments are required.
